Custom walk-in closet with built-in shelves, shoe cubbies, and adjoining vanity — by The Cabinet Company

Custom Closet Design & Installation in Cape May County

Walk-in closets, reach-ins, pantries, and mud rooms — designed around how you actually live and built to order for your home.

Why Cape May Homeowners Choose Us

Closets built for the shore-house reality

Cape May County homes have storage challenges you don't find in most of the country. Beach-town summer humidity. Small bedrooms in century-old cottages. Rental-property turnover that demands durable, flexible storage. Year-round homeowners juggling four-season wardrobes. The off-the-shelf closet systems from big-box retailers aren't built for any of it.

We've been designing and building custom closets across Cape May County since 2018. Every closet we deliver is measured on site, drawn to your exact space, and built to order — not cut from a handful of pre-drilled panels. The result is storage that fits the home, holds up to the weather, and actually makes your morning faster.

  • Built to order

Every panel, drawer, and shelf is cut for your space. No filler strips, no compromises at the edges.

  • Integrated lighting

LED strips, motion-activated drawer lights, and cabinet puck lights designed into the system, not added on top.

  • Hardware that lasts

Full-extension soft-close drawers, heavy-duty rods, and finish-matched hinges — the same hardware we use in our kitchens.

  • Local install team

We deliver, install, and adjust on-site across all 16 Cape May County towns. One team from measure to final walkthrough.

What We Build

Closet Systems for Every Space

Every custom closet we design is built to order by hand. Here are the four spaces we work in most across Cape May County.

Custom walk-in closet with open shelving, shoe cubbies, and adjoining vanity

Walk-In Closets

Your primary suite, reimagined

A walk-in closet is the single biggest storage upgrade in most Cape May County homes — room to hang, fold, display, and dress without ever leaving the space. We design around your actual wardrobe and how you use it, not a showroom template.

  • Double-hang, long-hang, and adjustable sections
  • Island, bench, or vanity integration
  • Integrated lighting inside cabinets and drawers
  • Belt, tie, and accessory pull-outs
  • Soft-close drawers with dividers

Best for: Primary bedrooms, dressing rooms, and new-construction suites.

Reach-In Closets

More storage in the space you already have

Reach-in closets are the workhorse. Most of them — especially in older beach-town houses — were built with a single rod and a shelf. A custom system typically doubles usable hanging capacity in the same footprint, with room for drawers, shoe racks, and accessories.

  • Double and triple hang configurations
  • Shoe shelves and pull-out drawers
  • Adjustable shelves that adapt as needs change
  • Hamper and laundry cutouts
  • Finished back panels for a built-in look

Best for: Guest rooms, kids’ rooms, and existing bedrooms without room to expand.

Custom Pantries

Kitchen storage that earns its footprint

A pantry should match how you cook. We design pantries around the actual contents — small-appliance garages, deep drawers for cookware, pull-out spice racks, and adjustable shelving that handles both cereal boxes and KitchenAid mixers. Our pantry work is an extension of our custom cabinetry service.

  • Appliance garages with outlets built in
  • Deep pot-and-pan drawers with dividers
  • Pull-out spice racks and pantry pull-outs
  • Baskets, wire racks, and glass-front options
  • Matching finishes to your main kitchen

Best for: Butler’s pantries, walk-in pantries, and reach-in pantry cabinets.

Mud Rooms & Drop Zones

Built for the shore-house lifestyle

Mud rooms are essential in Cape May County homes — beach gear, wet towels, sandy shoes, and rental-turnover storage all need a home. We design mud rooms and drop zones that handle the reality of coastal living: cubbies per family member, bench seating, hidden hamper storage, and a spot for every coat, hat, and beach bag.

  • Individual cubbies with hooks and baskets
  • Built-in bench seating with shoe storage below
  • Hidden hamper or dog-crate cutouts
  • Charging drawers for phones and devices
  • Durable finishes that handle sand, salt, and moisture

Best for: Back entries, garage-to-house transitions, and rental-property turnover zones.

Materials & Finishes

Finishes that match the rest of your home

Every custom closet we build can be matched to your existing cabinetry, trim, or flooring. We work with the same finish libraries and suppliers across every project.

Stained Hardwood

White oak, walnut, maple, and cherry — stained to order for a warm, natural look.

Laminate (TFL & HPL)

Highly durable thermally fused and high-pressure laminates in wood-look and solid-color finishes.

Hardware

Brushed brass, matte black, polished nickel, antique bronze, and satin chrome — finish-matched throughout the closet.

How It Works

Four steps from consultation to install

Consultation

We meet at your home or showroom, talk through how you actually use the space, and take measurements. Typically 45–60 minutes.

Design

You receive a 3D rendering with finishes, hardware, and pricing. We revise until the layout fits your wardrobe, not a showroom template.

Build

Your closet is built to order from premium materials — not stamped out of pre-drilled boards. Typical lead time is 4–6 weeks.

Install

Our install team delivers and fits everything on site. Most residential closets are installed in a single day.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a custom closet project take from design to installation?

Most projects take 5–8 weeks total — one week for design and revisions, four to six weeks for build, and a single install day. Pantries and mud rooms that integrate with existing cabinetry sometimes take longer when we are coordinating with a larger kitchen or renovation project.

What's the difference between a walk-in and a reach-in closet?

A walk-in closet has floor space you actually walk into, which means you can build on all three or four walls and add an island, bench, or vanity. A reach-in closet is accessed from a single door opening — typically 4 to 8 feet wide — and uses only the back and side walls. Walk-ins are the bigger investment; reach-ins are where most people get the biggest storage-per-dollar gain, since the starting point is usually a single rod and a shelf.

Do you offer lighting, hampers, and accessories?

Yes. We integrate LED strip lighting, cabinet-mounted puck lights, and motion-sensor drawer lighting. Accessories include pull-out hampers, valet rods, belt and tie racks, jewelry drawers with felt inserts, shoe fences, and charging drawers. Anything you can picture, we can source or build.

Can you design a closet for a rental or vacation home?

Absolutely — and we design a lot of them across Avalon, Stone Harbor, and Ocean City. Rental-ready closets prioritize durability (shore humidity, sandy shoes, high turnover), flexible storage for guest belongings, and clear separation between owner-locked storage and guest-accessible zones. We can build in owner-only sections with locks if that matters for your property.

What finishes and materials are available?

We work in painted and stained wood, thermally fused laminate (TFL), and high-pressure laminate. Painted finishes come in hundreds of colors and can match your existing cabinetry. Woods include white oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. Hardware is available in brushed brass, matte black, polished nickel, and antique bronze, among others.

Do you install the closet or just supply the parts?

We handle the full project — design, build, and installation. You don't need to coordinate a separate installer. For out-of-area rental-property owners, we can also work directly with your property manager so you don't need to be on site for the install.
